Swell is a decentralised staking protocol enabling users to earn rewards through liquid staking. Over several years of collaboration, the work spanned the entire visual and product experience - from foundational branding to website design, web app UI, marketing assets, and the recent launch of Swell Chain, an AI-powered protocol infrastructure. Initially, the focus was on crafting a strong, recognisable identity for Swell Network - one that could grow with the company. As the product matured and new sub-brands emerged, the design work evolved too, balancing consistency with innovation across multiple visual expressions. The most recent milestone was the creation of Swellchain, a new brand and platform requiring an entirely separate design system while still nodding to the original Swell identity.

challenges & Approach

In the early stages, the challenge was to propose a range of brand directions that could capture Swell’s vision - making staking both accessible and future-forward. Multiple branding concepts were explored collaboratively with the Swell team, weighing each one’s tone, crypto relevance, and scalability. The final identity blended professionalism with a clean, tech-forward aesthetic - flexible enough to work across token icons, UIs, and social graphics.

As Swell grew, the brand naturally matured. The challenge became preserving the original identity while refining it to suit a more established and crypto-native audience. This involved subtle yet deliberate visual evolutions: cleaner typography, sleeker gradients, and sharper UI decisions across both the marketing website and the staking app.

Over time, Swell launched several sub-brands - each requiring its own identity, token, and logo, but still connected through common patterns from the core brand. Creating cohesion across these assets while letting each feel distinct required precise design thinking.

The introduction of Swellchain marked the latest major milestone in the evolution of the Swell ecosystem. This **required a fresh branding, separate from but inspired by Swell Network. The challenge was to establish a fresh identity for a more technical, AI-driven product - one that stood confidently on its own while maintaining visual lineage.

Throughout the partnership, the role extended beyond product and branding into visual storytelling - supporting social media, infographics, animations, and lightweight motion work, all contributing to a coherent and engaging ecosystem presence.

The Swell brand has grown into a recognised and trusted name in the liquid staking space. From a single staking platform, it has evolved into a full ecosystem of crypto-native products, all unified through consistent design foundations. Visual design helped shape Swell’s voice in the crypto spacecommunicating trust, innovation, and professionalism without losing accessibility.

The consistent, scalable branding approach enabled the team to launch new sub-brands and Swellchain efficiently, without starting from scratch or compromising on clarity.

Design played a crucial role not just in product usability, but also in community growth - by shaping a strong visual identity across channels, driving user engagement and trust.
